What I’m Shopping For // Swimwear

Swimwear for Summer 2016

Spring 2016 Swinwear

As I’ve mentioned previously, here in Austin it’s already hot outside. As in normal-summer-temperature-anywhere-other-than-Texas kind of hot. And you know what hot temperatures mean… swimming!

My people are already begging to go to the pool, but I’m not quite as ready for that as they are. I still have to do that fun little thing known as swimsuit shopping. Oh, the joy.

I’ve been doing a little online browsing, and a few have jumped out and caught my eye. My middle is a little squishier than it used to be, so I tend to wear one-piece suits that have some kind of detailing to help camouflage the areas I don’t like. I definitely love the retro pin-up styles; they do wonders for curvy women!

These are the styles that have made my short list:

One: The Strawberry Daiquiri is a gorgeous two tone ruffled one piece with a removable neck strap by Albion. The bottom of the skirt can be ruched or extended depending on how much thigh you want to show.

Two: This glittery gold cut-cut out Out From Under suit from Urban Outfitters is gorgeous! It also has a ruched bottom and a removable strap. And, in case you didn’t notice, it’s gold! I love gold…

Three: The Ann Swimsuit in this garden party print is made by Rey Swimwear, a company committed to ethical fashion, employee dignity and fair wages. The company motto seems to be, “Who says it has to be itsy bitsy?” as all suits are modest and embody vintage glamor. All of Rey’s suits are inspired by Audrey Hepburn and her movie characters. This Ann suit in particular is named after the character of Princess Ann in the film Roman Holiday.

Four: Don’t like to order online? This super flattering Draped One-Piece can be found at your local Target. Don’t like stripes? It is also available in gorgeous shades of coral, turquoise, and plum.

Five: Most of the suits I’ve purchased in the past few years have been from Downeast Basics. Their swimwear, like this floral Island Life suit, are modest, pretty, and very flattering. I love the contrasting trim! Downeast is known for their colorful and flattering clothing that veers more toward the modest end of the spectrum. The tops are never too low-cut, and the skirts are never too short!

Six: This beauty is the Creamsicle Caroline Suit from Rey Swimwear. Again, inspired by Audrey Hepburn, this suit was named after the character Baroness Caroline DuLac in the film Love Among Thieves. It showcases contrasting colors of peach and lilac with button detailing and adorable collar trim.

Seven: Pin Up Girl Clothing is exactly what their name implies. Adorable retro pin-up styles like this black and white polka dot Halter One Piece are va-va-va-voom! It’s extremely flattering on the mid-section and hips. This one is definitely a head-turner!

Eight: As a fan of the more retro looks, I love the idea of a swimsuit styled as a playsuit. This Nicole swim/ playsuit by Rey Swimwear screams vintage glamor. It features a shelf bra with removable pads for support, adjustable straps, and removable waist tie. The Nicole is named after the character Nicole in the movie How to Steal a Million.

Nine: I don’t normally go for two piece suits, but this yellow floral print Bombshell bikini by Pin Up Girl Clothing is too cute to pass up! The longline top and high-waisted bottoms are the epitome of pin-up. Each piece is sold separately so you can customize the sizing to fit you perfectly.

Did any of these looks catch your eye? What do you normally look for in your swimwear?
