I admit, sometimes I am a little late when it comes to jumping into some trends. I tend use my figure as an excuse. I’m curvy instead of straight, and I’ve always mistakenly believed that most styles really only looked good on those blessed to be tall and willowy.

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not body shaming, just being realistic. Not all styles look good on all shapes. But I’m totally a fan of finding what works best on you and rocking it!

I remember watching What Not To Wear (sigh, I miss it!) and hearing Stacy and Clinton make a comment about not tapering pants toward the ankle because it makes you look like an ice cream cone. Who wants that?! So, it took me years to even try skinny pants, because small waist + wide hips + tapered legs = ice cream cone!

One of the styles that I tended to stay away from until recently were the cropped soft pants. You know the kind you see the fashionistas wearing with their little ankle booties and looking super cute. Yeah, not for me. Except, when I finally tried it, I loved it! It’s a look that I can change a variety of ways and make either casual or dressy.

So, the lesson for today is one of my favorites and one that I repeat often: Break the rules! Rules that you’ve been taught. Imaginary rules that you shackle yourself with. Break them! It’s ok to be adventurous and try something new!

Tell me, what are you afraid to try? Why don’t you give it a go?!

Here are more examples of the cute and comfortable soft pants look. Check them out!
